Jetstar’s Long Weekend Flight Package – Yay or Nay?

Jetstar is launching the Ultimate Long Weekend Flight Package for 2017 and one would get 7 return flights to 7 different destinations across Southeast Asia, East Asia and Australia over 7 long weekends for S$2,017 (inclusive of taxes, fees, booking fees and 20kg of checked baggage allowance).

I decided to go to Jetstar website and check out the prices for each trip (inclusive of taxes, fees, booking fees and 20kg of checked baggage allowance):-

Hong KongS$485.92
Ho Chi Minh CityS$228.69

^Flights to Taipei in October 2017 are not for sale yet. I’ve used the prices in September 2017 to approximate the fare.

For the exact same flights, one will enjoy the discount of S$720 (roughly 26%) from the current prices if one were to book those trips separately now (as of 5 Dec 2016).

But is it truly a good deal? I decided to check out the cheapest prices of non-budget airlines on the exact same dates and see if we can get a comparable deal.

The total cost? S$2,170. Just around S$150 more than Jetstar’s package.

Of course one can argue that this is not an apples to apples comparison because the timings are not quite the same. Then again, Jetstar’s flight timings aren’t the best to start with. Furthermore, one would need to pay for meals on Jetstar’s flights and each meal costs at least S$15.

To be honest, Jetstar is really smart to come out with this package. However, after looking at the other deals that I’ve sussed out, it is definitely a big nay for me. My suggestion is to plan the trips individually and pick the best deal for your destination(s).

Beside, do you really want to keep going to Bangkok/Bali/Hong Kong? 🙂
